Lisciano Castle
(Height: 519 m a.s.l. - Distance: 2.5 Km from Lisciano Niccone; 24 Km from Umbertide). It has a very ancient origin. In fact it was built in the IX-X century on the top of the hill overlooking in the town. In 1202, thanks to its owners, the Marchesi del Monte, the castle was put under the protection of Perugia, following the destiny of this town. For a short period it belonged to the Casali Family from Cortona, then it fell under the Pope's rule (1749), and in 1861 the castle became part of Reign of Italy Among the different owners who followed one another during the time, we may also remember the Marchesi di Sorbello. Today there is nothing left but some ruins, to prove the imposing structure of the old castle. Here the municipal administration had its original seat, before being moved downhill. In Val di Rose, near the hamlet of Crocicchie, there is S. Niccolò Church where people may admire a Raphaelesque painting by Eusebio di S. Giorgio, dating back to 1515.
