Bastia Creti Village
(Height: 430 a.s.l. - Distance: 12 Km from Umbertide; 8 Km from Lisciano Niccone). In the ancient maps this place is usually referred to as Bastia di Croce. The fortress, whose construction was authorized by the administrators of Perugia, dates back to 1433. In 1439, the inhabitants of Città di Castello made a raid into the territory of Bastia Creti, Preggio and Reschio and took many prisoners. In 1488 the urge for an immediate intervention brought Perugia to exempt the inhabitants of this area from paying thr so-called sussidio deuoco (Grant of the fire), for a period of three years. However, this measure was not enough and in 1485 Perugia sent a contribution amounting to 30 gold florins in order to restore the castle-walls. Today it isn't possible to recognize the original traces of the fortress and the enclosing walls. Recently, Borgo Bastia Creti has been completely restored.
